Round One, Fight!

And breathe,

What an incredible, intense and interesting few months that was! All these plans to be the ultimate mommy blogger right off the bat and here we are. My daughter is almost 4 months old and I am writing my second blog post.

Zoë Yvonne Rogue was born on March 28th. 6 weeks before her due date.

The Adventure began the morning of March 5th after being on stress leave for 2 weeks I had finally decided I had relaxed enough and I needed to start getting my home ready for our expected little bundle of joy. A little CSI, Criminal Minds and some Kraft Dinner for lunch and I told myself after I was done the cleaning, sorting, organising and decorating would begin!

Half way through my Kraft Dinner my life changed forever. At 30 weeks pregnant, minding my own business, doing nothing at all, my water breaks. *facepalm* No that couldn't possibly be happening. I must have had a small accident. And again. Call the midwife. "ok this might be stupid but i think my water just broke, call me back" Panicked and alone at home with water gushing at every movement i tried to stay calm. After what felt like forever (most likely 2 minutes) she calls back. "Go to emergency and tell them you think your water has broken and you are 30 weeks pregnant, i will call ahead, they will be expecting you". Thank you thank you thank you dear husband for picking our new BC home RIGHT behind the hospital!!!!!!

About an hour later and a bunch of tests run, an iv in place, gown on the doctor comes in to talk to me. "you aren't in labour but your water has broken." and then the sentence that would throw all my plans out the window for the perfect home before buggy came home. "i hate to tell you, but you are here for the long haul".......... that is until the birth of my child.

Now at the time I can tell you they said things like it shouldn't be more then a week, baby won't stay in that long, you should go into labour soon, if you develop an infection we will have to get baby out. In reality for those of you who have done the math I spent in total 28 days on the maternity ward of my local hospital. That's right, 28 days of a hospital bed, hospital food, hospital noise, and hospital hospitality. Thank goodness for my barista life style! I knew all of the nurses and doctors by there drink orders. I had nurse friends in every inch of that hospital that immediately came to my rescue with home cooked meals, sushi, take out, entertainment, you name it! If it weren't for my friends i don't think i would have made it out sane. Matter of opinion of course!

I won't get into those agonising days of lock down but I will tell you a few good things came from all of it. #1 my beautiful baby girl!!!! I also made some new friends, gained a whole new respect for what it can possibly take to have a healthy baby, and never appreciated my own bed more in my life.

It was quite the journey but we got there. 3 days of labour and an emergency c section later that is our beautiful girl was born at 34 weeks 5 pounds and 5.5 ounces.

Now I get to spend the rest of my life telling you about how awesome it is being Zoë's mom.
